Equality and Diversity

Equality Statement

At Southwark Primary School, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith or religion or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.

The achievement of pupils will be monitored by race, gender and disability and we will use this data to support pupils, raise standards, and ensure all pupils receive an inclusive education. We will tackle discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all. At Southwark Primary School, we believe that diversity is a strength, which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here.

We value and actively welcome the views of parents and the wider community in relation to Equality and Diversity. We are committed to working in partnership to make reasonable adjustments, where necessary and appropriate, to ensure equality of access for all.

Our Equality and Diversity Policy and Equality Objectives are reviewed annually to ensure full compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty and to reflect our ongoing commitment to inclusion.

 Our Equality Objectives are:

  1. Improve the provision and achievement for identified groups of pupils to close any gaps between them and their peers: Disadvantaged, EAL, SEN and any other group identified as with a protected characteristic.
  2. Further develop and embed an inclusive curriculum which celebrates equality and diversity and challenges prejudice and further develop the school’s role in promoting community cohesion.
  3. To review levels of pupil engagement in school, across extra-curricular activities, to ensure equity and fairness in access and engagement.
  4. The attendance for disadvantaged children or those with protected characteristics, will be closer in line with the attendance for non-disadvantaged or other children and/or the national average for attendance.
